It's generally good practice to know what addresses the Comptroller has on file for you.
Notices get sent to your business and registered agent regularly. Some of these notices lead to estimated tax due if not responded to timely and the one of the easiest way to have estimated taxes accruing that you don't know about until it's too late, is to have outdated information on file with the Comptroller.
There's a few ways to review it, below are the easiest way.
Phone
You can call into the taxpayer hotline - 800-531-5441, give confidential information your TPID to prove you have authority to speak (generally about month's tax filings) and ask what address information. Some of it can be updated over the phone.
Web
There's 2 places to go to find the information.
https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/franchise/account-status/search - Find the most recent public information report and account status with this link.
https://mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us/staxpayersearch/ - Find the business and outlet locations with this link.
Note, there is a link on the Comptroller website to update your outlet locations without filing a document or logging into webfile. We've found this to commonly not work and calling tended to be quicker, so we're not including the link and would recommend against using it.
If you need help with updating address information with the Comptroller, please let us know. If you need to change your registered agent, generally that's something a registered agent company can do in a much more cost effective manner than we can.
